In the summer months when school is out, many of our guests bring their children who don’t have the opportunity to be in a structured summer camp program.
Our volunteer, Noel O’Brien, came up with the idea of having a reading program for the children during Soup Kitchen hours. With the help of many others, we now have a children’s table and chairs, a constant supply of children’s books from Noel O’Briens grandchildren, and the Book Fairies (thebookfairies.org) . We also have specific volunteers who read and play with the children. The children are loving it!
