The North Shore Soup Kitchen has a new friend!
Her name is Fredda Klopfer. Fredda spent 30 years in the North Shore school district, 10 years as the principal of Glen Head schools. Prior to that Fredda taught special-education in the district. She also spent 10 years as the principal of the religious school at Temple Tifereth Israel in Glen Cove.
We met Fredda when we were looking for a social worker for the Soup Kitchen. She recommended a bilingual young man to us, Chris Garcia, who we hired... and with whom we could not be happier. After Chris told her about the work we do at the Soup Kitchen, she asked if she could help with anything.
We told her about a reading program for children that we were trying to get off the ground. She connected us with a constant supply of children’s books (bookfairies.org), donated arts and craft materials, and set up a schedule of volunteers she recruited to read and play with the children during each lunch hour.
With Fredda‘s help we now have a summer children’s program that’s working. The children are loving it. Thank you Fredda!
